“Points will cost a lot until the end of the season”

Nuno Freddy, 49, was Bola ao Centro’s guest. After several years at SC Vila Real, this season he took over the management of Abambres SC, where he feels “happy” with the new challenge. “Everyone knows that my club is SC Vila Real, but I’m learning to like Abambres. And I will always fight tooth and nail for my team.”
Football is part of his life and he doesn't hide his love for his favourite club, where he played for several years, especially in the senior team, with memorable moments along the way, such as that header against Beira Mar (First Division at the time) in the final stretch of the Portuguese Cup round of 16 match, in December 2001, when SC Vila Real was playing in the Second Division B. “I still remember that move today, which will stay in my memory forever.
Gordinho took the corner, I pretended to go to the first post, but I knew the ball was going to the second, I jumped and headed it with my eyes open... I looked at the goalkeeper and said, "You're done." It was one of the greatest joys of my life. Two weeks later, in a game against Bragança, I tore a ligament and was out for many months. I didn't play after that against Sporting, who came to Monte da Forca." But, in football, "the happy moments far outweigh the sad ones."
A serious injury ended his career as a player. He moved to the other side, as a coach, and a new challenge arose with the Abambres senior team. “They asked me to have a competitive team that gives everything for the club. I always demand more”, he confesses, adding that the season could be going better. “We have to work harder, because the team has the capacity to give more”. With extensive experience in youth teams, Nuno Freddy reveals that the important thing in training is that the kids are happy. “Parents should enjoy this time, because it passes very quickly”.
To improve district football, the coach suggests creating a “platform to post videos of the games so that everyone can access them. We can no longer hide anything from anyone.”
Regarding the championship, Nuno Freddy reveals that “there are teams completely apart, with very strong squads compared to others”. He also adds that “points will be very expensive until the end of the season”, in which he believes that the fight for “first place will be between Chaves B and Montalegre, but Vidago is also lurking”.
Next season, Nuno Freddy revealed that he will continue at Abambres. “The president has already told me that he is counting on me. I want to be part of the solution and not a problem.”
